People of all ages are invited to attend the FREE Heritage Harvest Garden Celebration at the LeDuc Historic Estate on Saturday, June 2, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. There will be hands-on activities for the whole family to enjoy. The key hands-on activity will be the use of EarthBox Gardens. Visitors will be able to purchase their own EarthBox Garden for only $40. Reservations to purchase an EarthBox Garden MUST be made by calling 651-437-7055. The EarthBox on wheels with potting soil, plants and a copy of "From Garden to Plate" Bookazine will be offered to people who purchase the box. Visitors who purchase the box and who have received a certificate will be doing their own planting. The advantage of participating in this event is that people will learn how to grow and use edible gardens. The LeDuc Historic Estate and Dakota County Historical Society have partnered with Hastings Family Service and United Way of Hastings. A grant of $1700 from United Way of Hastings has helped make this a viable project. A representative from Dakota County Soil and Water Conservation Department and the BlueThumb Project will be there to talk about rain gardens and native plant gardens and honey production . A guest beekeeper will be on hand. LeDuc gardeners will talk about composting, chicken keeping, vegetable gardening, sustainability and gardening for monarch butterflies.
