"Leaving Iowa" Dinner Theater by Black Dirt Theater and The Onion Grille
A Comedy About Family Vacations
By Tim Clue and Spike Manton
Leaving Iowa is a postcard to anyone who has ever found themselves driving along on a road revisiting fond memories of their youth. A middle aged, Boston news columnist, Don Browning, returns home for a christening. His mother finds his father’s long-missing ashes, and the guilt- laden Don, who had selfishly missed his father’s funeral three years earlier, sets out on a road trip to find a proper burial place for his father’s ashes. As he travels he recalls in flashbacks, the annual zany and tedious vacations of Don’s youth. Ultimately he re-discovers his love for his father. The characters in this show are ones that make up a four person family, and two additional characters who make up all of the other characters that they meet along their family trips.
