Business of the Year Carlson Capital Management, Inc.
Carlson Carlson Capital Management, Inc. is the recipient of this year’s Business of the Year Award.  Carlson Capital Management, Inc. (CCM) is a comprehensive wealth management firm with Minnesota offices in Hastings, Northfield, Bloomington and Rochester.  Known for their exceptional customer service, CCM has been a trusted advisor to more than 700 clients in Minnesota and throughout the country, managing more than $1.3 billion in assets.  CCM was founded in 1987 by Jeff and Greg Carlson and has grown to a team of 39, led by Jeff and Greg along with President Justin Stets, which includes attorneys, accountants, financial planners and support staff. The company and its employees are actively involved with more than 50 organizations including: Hastings Area Rotary Club, Hasting Family Service, The Y in Hastings, Hastings High School, Hastings Young Life, Feed My Starving Children and local churches.  Four years ago, they reinvested in Hastings by building a beautiful new building across from City Hall. In June 2015 CCM, was ranked No. 2 on its annual list of Top 100 Wealth Management firms in the nation by CNBC. Congratulations to Jeff, Greg and the rest of the team at Carlson Capital Management!

Educator of the Year Spencer Johnson
Spencer Johnson, Social Studies teacher at Hastings Middle School, is the recipient of the Educator of the Year Award.  Spencer’s passion and enthusiasm for history is evident in his museum like classroom which gives students a hands on learning experience with period clothing and ancient artifacts. Outside the classroom, he engages students with various educational field trips to the Minnesota History Center, the Minnesota State Capitol, The LeDuc Historic Estate and local cemeteries. He’s extremely active in the LeDuc’s Civil War weekend and often encourages students to join in on the re-enactment experience. Spencer also formed the Middle School outdoor club with activities like fishing, mushroom hunting, kite flying and more.  He has been leading this club, with help from others for over 20 years.  Congratulations Mr. Johnson!

Volunteer of the Year Rita Kriha
Rita Kriha has been selected as the recipient of Volunteer of the Year.  Over the years Rita has been involved in countless civic groups and activities.  Her children grew up watching her volunteer her time and many talents ranging from organizing Sunday coffee and donuts, to counting money at church, to leading, training and advising other volunteers in cash handling protocols and money counting procedures at SEAS.  In addition, Rita has been active with the Regina Medical Center Auxiliary since 1975, participating and supporting the Red Cross Bloodmobile, resident nursing home bazaars, and publication of the cookbook “Time to Operate in the Kitchen”.  Rita is also manager of the two hospital gift shops, selecting merchandise, training staff, providing starting cash and balancing each machine every day they are open, and doing inventory at the end of the year. As if that isn’t enough, Rita also volunteers at Pleasant Hill Library both as a shelf reader and serving as a lead for the Friends of the Library Book Sales twice a year and is actively involved with Oak Ridge Assisted Living Resident Association and frequently provides rides to Alzheimer’s patients.  The Hastings Community is honored to have such a kind and generous woman in our community.  Congratulations Rita!
