A TOWN RICH IN HISTORY
History
is the focus for many visitors to Hastings, nationally
known for its Victorian architecture.
Hastings has a total of 63 buildings on the National
Register including 33 commercial buildings and 28
private homes and 2 churches.
The Hastings Tourism & City Map is available at
City Hall (101 4th Street East) or at the Hastings Area
Chamber of Commerce Tourism Bureau office (111 3rd
Street East). The map includes the scenic bike
trail and a self guided historic walking or driving
tour. Also available is a comprehensive guide to
Hastings.
Some of
the sites on the tour include Hastings City Hall,
formerly the Historic Dakota County Court House, as well
as the 1957 Fasbender Clinic, designed by Frank Lloyd
Wright, and the LeDuc Historic Estate.
Also of
note are many grand Victorian mansions, and the
wonderfully restored 19th Century buildings of the
downtown area, a National Register Historic District and
part of the National Trust's Main Street Program.
